Gravity does all the work!

Pour "raw" water in top chamber and draw off sparkling-clean water from lower chamber. Special ceramic elements contain carbon media to remove bacteria and reduce chemicals, rust, sediment, and bad tastes/odors.

Beautiful Stainless Steel-The Big Berkey is the only filter we carry that is made of stainless steel. Can't rust, break or impart flavor to water.

Contains 4 ceramic elements, filters up to 1 gal/hour, holds 8 quarts. Black Berkey elements may also be used if desired. 19"Hx8"OD, 6 lb.

Elements are impregnated with silver to prevent bacterial growth.

Elements can be cleaned (brushed) repeatedly before they need to be replaced. Tested by ANSI/BSI certified labs and the ceramic shell is an NSF listed component.

“I bought a pair of the elements and built my own 'big berkey' using plans at http://www.alpharubicon.com/kids/homemadeberkeydaire.htmWe have a cabin on 20 acres of forest in N. Wisconsin. Rather than deal with the expense of a well, we now have begun collecting rainwater and filtering it using this homebuilt filter. As a test, I took 5 gallons of stagnant frog pond water, ran it thru a sheet into another bucket to remove bugs and tadpoles and other large things, then dumped it in our homemade "berkey". Crystal clear, delicious drinking water was the result.Highly recommended. If you don't care about the cosmetic end of things, build your own. If you want something prettier, buy the 'official' Berkey.”

“As with so many products, the construction seems to have been downgraded. These filters are somewhat fragile. They are now made without the rounded edge on the top which makes them even more susceptable to breakage. If you fill the filter with a hose, be sure not to let the water run directly on the element as they do erode. ”
