The Fewer Herbs Used the Better the Combination
The tendency is to think that if a two-herb combination gives me all this flexibility in tailoring a formula to address a specific condition how about three- four- and five-herb formulas? What if I combined all twenty-five of the herbs listed in this book then what? Unfortunately no. The more herbs used in a formula the more difficult it becomes to balance their different properties. Each herb acts on its own as well as in relation to the other herbs. So it is actually preferable to use the smallest number of herbs possible in any medicinal formula.
