Hand-crafted in Solingen, Germany, they meet the uncompromising standards that have made German cutlery famous. Blade feels weightless since most of the knife's weight is in your hand. This means perfect balance and knife control.

Full tang - from the tip of the blade to the heavy counterweight at the end of the handle, these knives are one piece of forged high carbon, ice-hardened, stainless steel. No weld between tang and blade!

Cutting edge is hand-ground. Black hostaform handle fastened with aluminum rivets.

OUR BEST KNIVES - BY FRANZ GUDE DESCRIPTION
  • More than 40 working steps (mostly by hand) are used to finish the knife, including final sharpening and an old-fashioned whetting
  • Stamped from one piece of steel (including blade, bolster and tang). Most other knives, even very high quality ones, have a weld between the handle tang and the blade, reducing strength, affecting balance and possibly even creating areas where germs can be trapped.
  • It takes over 1000 pounds of pressure to stamp out the knives, which alligns the molecular structure in a way that results in unsurpassed strength
  • Every Franz Gude knife maker must go through an intensive apprenticeship and training process
  • Fourth generation family company, still family owned after more than 100 years.
  • Jay and Galen Lehman have stayed in the knife maker's home, personally visited the factory (located in his basement) and inspected the quality and caring that goes into every knife.
  • Forged piece at the end of the handle---this additional weight shifts the centre of gravity to the rear, thus providing superior balance.

"Whatever anyone else says, these are fine premium knives. I have the boning knife and it is wonderful. Blade is flexible and can cut through joints or follow under the thinnest fat layer without problem. Can't wait to start filling out my collection!"

"The steel is great. It sharpened up nicely and it kept the edge for a long time. I found the handle to be too small however. I found the knife uncomfortable to use. My wife didn’t mind it but prefers the handles of our other knifes."
