"Okay, I was worried about purchasing this due to the uneven quality of Dietz in China. However, this attractive, large size, black and brass lantern opens properly and has not leaked. Yay! Where have their brass lanterns disappeared to? They were so pretty."

"I just bought this lantern and brought it back with me to Germany where I now live. We use lanterns in our garden house where we have no electricity. I've purchased Feuerhand lanterns (which are great), but wanted something larger (and brighter). It is a large lantern, and brighter than the Feuerhands. The Dietz is maybe a little lower quality than the Feuerhands (most notably the globe (the Feuerhands' globe is heat resistant glass)), but not much. Also, I can't complain - the price of the Dietz is around $15 - about an hour's wage. I can't imagine these lanterns cost only an hour's wage back when they were first produced in the 19th Century (probably more likely a few weeks wages). Sure, I guess you can find these lanterns cheaper, but personally, I would rather patronize a store like Lehman's rather than the huge conglomerates. We're always complaining about nothing being manufactured in the US anymore, but then we continue to seek the cheapest item. I'm personally amazed they can produce a lantern so inexpensively (even the Feuerhands here are only 20 Euros). "

"I can hardly believe what a great value these were. When they were on sale I ordered 5 to use as emergency lighting at our cabin. I am SO sorry I did not order more. Yes, they are lightweight, but it is a good thing because they are huge! Even if they are not on sale anymore, I think I am going to order another batch."

"This lantern is very bright and lightweight. I prefer to have a site glass to go by when filling it up. That's not a complaint of this lantern, just a preference. I use kerosene with a pine additive that I got at Lowe's. I can smell it, but only enough to be acceptable to me."

"This is the 2nd one that I ordered for me (I have purchased 4 for friends). These lanterns are great. I love them for porches on weekend get always, on the beach at night, for deck parties. The light is great and the hurricane lantern shield keeps it from being blown out on the beach. We have had several beach blanket night parties and have really enjoyed the lantern. The current sales price is half the price I paid for my first one!"

"This is a great lamp. We use several of these as backup lights during power outages. They also look great as decorations during the rest of the time."
