"Experiencing quite a bad winter this year in Michigan, including a Christmas week power outage from an ice storm, followed by 18 inches of snow followed by -15 actual. I am always OVER prepared for everything but this was the one thing missing! This will cozy things up and save my batteries and hands from cranking lanterns for the next outage. Burns bright and is great to warm your hands by. Will be buying more...want one for every room! Oh...and the packaging is so awesome and it arrived very fast. Love Lehman's!"

"I bought my Dietz lantern forty years ago while living in Florida. It has served us well having been through four hurricanes and never failed to work. My kids love it and keep trying to talk me out of it, but I told them they'll have to buy their own. The biggest thing is to use smokeless oil so you don't have to scrub the globe as often (actual kerosene and some lamp oils leave a nasty black soot)."

"I love these lanterns!! We have 3 of them ourselves and I have bought them as gifts for friends who have also loved them. They are easy to use, very functional, and yet attractive enough to make a great decorative item when we're not burning them. We couldn't be more pleased and we've had these almost 6 months."

"I am ordering mine today! But my neighbor has 2 of them and they are awesome! I want to reply to the post about WalMart having this for a cheaper price. The one at WalMart that is mentioned is NOT the same. This lantern is 15 inches. The one at WalMart is only 4.5 inches. It also has horrible reviews. I generally do not comment on another review. But for something like this, you get what you pay for. If you want a lantern that you can depend on when you need it.....get this one at Lehman's!"

"Bought two of these in December of 2012 when they were on sale, they arrived two days before the power went out for a day. They burned great, excellent light out-put only problem was that one of the globes cracked after five minutes of use. Contacted Lehman's they didn't have any more in stock. It took them a while to get the globe to me but delivered as promised. Excellent Customer Service!!!!"

"I ordered 2 Dietz Blizzard lanterns. They arrived a day earlier than expected. The packaging was excellent. They were wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap and the box was packed with paper to prevent movement. They were in perfect condition! I have not used them yet, but I am thrilled with the large size and vibrant color! I will be ordering more in the future!"

"I was a little concerned that Deitz lanterns are now imported considering my experience with other chinese produced lanterns. I was however very satisfied with this lantern. Overall this was a well made product. The only less than satisfactory thing on this lantern was the fit of the cap to filler neck."

"I'll give this lantern a 5 even though on one of the first two that I ordered, the globe lift lever broke the first time I used it. I'd rate Lehman's customer service at A+, they addressed the issue immediately. You'll notice that I've purchased more than one of these lanterns - no regrets - good product. They were larger than I expected - which was nice. They operate well... I appreciate that I can move them around (or hang them up)... something I hadn't considered when I bought my first lamp... one of the pretty ones that sits on a table. Those look nice but must be stationary while burning... and must cool after their put out! The Dietz Blizzard Hurricane burns strongly... even as I carry it around! Very useful."

Quality appears to be very good and for the price if they only last two or three years it will be money well spent. Shipping was quick and the packing was unbelievable. "Purchased three of these for our deck because another brand rusted out. This lantern is very sturdy, has a large fount for extended burn time, and operates flawlessly in wind and rain. While the winds were only about 20-25 mph, and the rain not terribly heavy, I am very pleased that the flame did not flicker in the wind, nor extinguish in the rain. We'll see how they hold up next hurricane season here in central FL."

"I have been very happy with this lantern and use it frequently indoors and out during the winter in South Dakota where it is usually well below zero and the wind blows 55mph. This lamp has never failed me. I use Klean Heat Oil Lamp Fuel, another great product from Lehman's. It barely has a smell when the lantern is first lit. Always pleased with the products and service here."

"I have an 80 year old Little Wizard No.100 which burns for 100 hours with the 3/8 wick. Just set up my new Blizzard, black with brass trim and am very pleased. Some say that they feel cheap and the metal seems thin. Well... they have not changed in the last 80 years that I can see. Also, you cannot 'buy American' when it comes to kerosene lanterns. Even a cursory check will reveal that these are made in China. Get over it, we are talking 15.00 here. I would happily have paid twice the price. Love it."

"So far, my tally of Dietz lanterns is up to 4. I recently ordered 2 blizzards from this site, and they came all the way to leelanau county Michigan in just TWO days after shipment. I'm guessing my brothers 1940 ford tractor could have run over the shipping box, and the lanterns would have been all right. These blizzards are alot bigger then them junier lanterns. the tanks on these are very large, and the rate of fuel consumption is fine for it's size. Lehmans service is Great, and I will definantly order from them in the years to come."

"I ordered two of these. I was very impressed with the packaging. I was also surprised with the quality of the product. I have a couple of cheap Chinese lanterns that I never used because they are basically just for show. The Dietz lanterns, although also made in China, are much better quality than what you will find at your local discount store. I consider this money well spent."

"So far, I've ordered a total of 12 Dietz Blizzard lanterns from Lehman's this year. 9 blue, and 3 black. All are excellent, and arrived well packed. I had read that the taller globe of the Blizzard helped them burn better at high altitude, and I've got a couple of them at my off-the grid back country place, which is at just under 8000 feet, and they work perfectly there. Learned one thing about lantern fuels using these outdoors: Some lantern fuel in the clear bottles available at a lot of retailers will actually start to solidify (freeze!) at around 40 degrees! So I switched to plain old kerosene, which is good to WELL below zero. They give off a lot of light. I'm very happy with these lanterns, and can wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking for a good alternative source of light at a very good price."

"This is the 2nd one that I ordered for me (I have purchased 4 for friends). These lanterns are great. I love them for porches on weekend get always, on the beach at night, for deck parties. The light is great and the hurricane lantern shield keeps it from being blown out on the beach. We have had several beach blanket night parties and have really enjoyed the lantern. The current sales price is half the price I paid for my first one!"

After reading all the reviews, I was pleased to see it was an error on the writers part. He loved his Blizzard.. I've been using these lamps for the last 10 years and prefer them over flashlights when I go walking. I just ordered another dozen for Christmas gifts. "

"People usually praise Champion lantern and I guess for right reason. However, one of them, which I bought recently (not at Lehman’s) was quite leaky. Now this much cheaper lantern does work as well as its famous brother. The finish and overall appearance of Dietz lantern oozes quality, it doesn’t look cheap even though it’s priced as one. One more thing, it does burn fuel completely, you barely smell an odor of burned substance. Very good lantern, and by the way, the service at Lehman’s is exemplary. The first sample of Blizzard Dietz I got had faulty burner, now since burners were out of stock at a store at that time, they sent me completely new lantern for exchange."

"I just bought this lantern and brought it back with me to Germany where I now live. We use lanterns in our garden house where we have no electricity. I've purchased Feuerhand lanterns (which are great), but wanted something larger (and brighter). It is a large lantern, and brighter than the Feuerhands. The Dietz is maybe a little lower quality than the Feuerhands (most notably the globe (the Feuerhands' globe is heat resistant glass)), but not much. Also, I can't complain - the price of the Dietz is around $15 - about an hour's wage. I can't imagine these lanterns cost only an hour's wage back when they were first produced in the 19th Century (probably more likely a few weeks wages). Sure, I guess you can find these lanterns cheaper, but personally, I would rather patronize a store like Lehman's rather than the huge conglomerates. We're always complaining about nothing being manufactured in the US anymore, but then we continue to seek the cheapest item. I'm personally amazed they can produce a lantern so inexpensively (even the Feuerhands here are only 20 Euros). "

"We run 40 lanterns for walking tours of a historic site, half Dietz (mostly Blizzard), half Champion. Like the more expensive Champions, the Blizzards are easy to light, stay lit in any weather, throw a respectable amount of light, are easy to clean, and look great--a good value. We just bought another dozen. They will rust where paint chips off, but otherwise hold up well to hard use. Be sure to pick up an extra globe and filler cap."

"Not bad at all for the price, can leak a very small amount around the fill cap area when used on walks if it has more than about half a tank of fuel- the directions do warn of similar reasons to not fill above 85% capacity, I am using Aladdin oil in mine and it gets great light output. Very pleased with the amount of light from this one. However, Aladdin oil seems to have a thinner viscosity than kerosene and I need to try some kero in this to see if it does the same thing but it seems Aladdin oil can wick itself up the fuel cap somehow when a little gets sloshed up into that area- it's not a big deal because the lantern would leak anyway through the burner if it was overturned, but a good reason to not fill the reservoir too full, also it weighs a lot less half full! If it had a better fuel cap on it I would give a 5 rating, otherwise a 4 and a good value. I use this daily or should I say nightly, for general purpose lighting on the farm, walks to the swamp at night, indoors when the power is out and sometimes just for a change of pace or for relaxation. All in all it's the best light you can buy for the price and I am buying more Dietz lanterns for the farm."
