"This needs to be at least twice the size it currently is and the openings need to be bigger so only larger coals are left in the stove. we light the stove in late October & keep it going until May going through about 7 cords. I cut some of the mesh out but the overall size is just too small. As for the handle, yes it is short but we use a pair of welding gloves anytime we work with the fire so that wasn't an issue. We found it FAR easier to just move the coals to one side, then back to the other (takes 15 seconds) and then use a large shovel we got from plow & hearth to remove the ashes, cleaning out the insert every 24-36 hrs. Our insert takes 20" logs & we've been burning for 3 winters. "

"Nice product and is easy to use. Restarting a new fire with the hot coals in the morning is a lot easier. I agree with one review, just don't try to scoop too much ash at a time."

"Great tool for continuous burning stoves. Other brands don't compare because they have holes instead of the more open grate. I would also agree though that a deeper/wider shovel would be helpful. I would also like a longer handle because I have a deep stove."

"I love this tool - makes using my warm ash vac a lot easier. I agree with one of the other reviewers that the tool would be better if made deeper because when you shake it to allow the ash to fall through, some of the coals fall off into the ash pile I am trying to create which makes it take longer to use. But, I'll keep using it as it's better than shoveling everything into a bucket getting ash everywhere."

"I am very pleased with the tool. Each day I have at least 3 inch by 12 inch pile of coals that can be used again instead of thrown out. Over a full heating season I should see a difference in teh amount of wood used."
