"The Carbide was made for the Carbide Lantern. I've had my 2 Lanterns for many years with NO Problems. Remember, this was invented back in the 1800s. You can't just throw in a couple of batteries and get the same results of a flashlight made today. It's made for emergencies and it works well for that. "

"Use this for lighting on antique cars that used carbide lamps. I LOVE the fact that it comes in 5 cans instead of just one huge can. This means you only need to open one can at a time, and the rest stay sealed and fresh. This would be a good item for antique car clubs to order, so members can go on a real "Gaslight" tour at night, as our regional group of the HCCA has done."

"I use carbide in a lamp to black the sights on my M1 Garand for long range target shooting and it works great."
