Planning for the Best Production
With peppers more than most other vegetables matching the right variety with the right location is essential. But before you open a seed catalog first consider your needs.
The kitchen is the best place to plan your pepper crop. How do you intend to use the peppers you grow? Do you want to grow sweet peppers hot peppers or both? Do you want to stuff roast or fry them? Use them in hot sauces? Slice them for fresh salads? How will you store them--frozen pickled or dried? Do you want to dry them for decorations?
Consider also your garden space. How many plants can you grow? Do you want to use peppers ornamentally in your flower beds? Will you grow them in containers or indoors?
For advice on what varieties are best adapted to your local environment and soil conditions talk with fellow gardeners your County Extension agent or your state university extension service.
