"I have this and the pressured lamp. I like both of them the pressured lamp puts off so much light its great for kitchen & dining room I have it hanging from ceiling, and lights up my living room nicely. I have used white gas and kerosene. The gas was much brighter light the kerosene was less light and you need to clean it more often. I have had these lamps for over 10 years. Today I am buying more for our fishing cabin."

"This new mantle has a white light. I have a Genie II with older mantles that have a yellow light. This new mantle doesn't seem to be as bright as the older ones. Besides being rated at 40 candlepower and being used on a 60 candlepower capable lamp, it seems to do the job."

"A very pretty lamp with very pretty white light and lots of heat. The unshaded 60 Candlepower Aladdin is slightly less affective than an unshaded 15 Watt incandescent candle base bulb. I have a modified 1" wick pilgrim lamp that's almost as affective and uses less fuel. *** It is extremely dangerous to modify any item which burns fuel as it's main function. DON'T DO IT!!! *** The factory bevel trimmed wick on the Aladdin is not conducive to efficient fuel delivery. The supplied wick de-carbonizer also distorts the face of the wick improperly. I removed the diffuser and used a razor to flat top the wick and then used a pair of scissors to trim the stragglers. That fixed the blotchy nature of the burn. It's a pretty lamp, it gives off pretty white light and lots of heat. Buyer beware. If you're looking for super bright light from something that uses mantles, better to go with pressurized fuel for the simple reason that it is far more efficient and will produce much more light for your dollar. It is a pretty oil lamp that produces pretty white light and LOTS of heat. Seriously, it's below -10F out there, and with the Aladdin burning, our furnace is taking a break."

"The Aladdin mantle system puts out great light. However, the assembly leaves something to be desired. They're often not symmetrical, and so the flame reaches some parts more than others, resulting in uneven light. If you get one part of the mantle glowing nicely, another part may be sooting up. Some are better than others due to random variations, but it's a crap shoot. You may get a good one and you may not."
