"Due to the price I hesitated several weeks before I ordered this lantern. It costs about twice as much as my Dietz Air Pilot. It arrived well packaged and upon inspection there was no damage. I was a bit surprised at the smaller size but was also surprised at the quality. It's very well made and quite attractive. It has a nice 'feel' and would be ideal for carrying. It puts out less light than the Air Pilot but it's adequate for my needs. I probably wouldn't use it to do outside chores in a blizzard although its a sturdy lantern and would be up to the job. I don't go outside in blizzards much anyway. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a well built quality lantern. "

"Great little lantern. Well built and heavier gauge than most of the new ones. Looks great hanging on the wall with it's polished silver look. Does not put out as much candlepower as my Champion #2 but for it being half the size really puts out enough for the room it's in. Very happy with solid construction and light output for it's size."

"Just got my Feuerhand today, and I am impressed. For it's small size, it is quite heavy, doesn't rattle at all (the handle will even stay up on it's own, and while the lifting mechanism is stiff, mine has not came crashing down yet. The light it puts out is good for the size, but I wouldn't recommend reading with it. I will be buying at least one more of these!"

"I have collected lanterns for years and when I came across these, I decide to order 3 of these. I really was impressed with the heavy weight, quality, and the variety of colors. I have other things that are made in Germany and they too are well made compared to most of the China junk."

"I've collected and played with lanterns for years, and the Feuerhand is by far the nicest made. The flame is steadier than the equivalent Dietz, and you can't beat the quality of the enameling. I use them on camping trips as well as on the patio at home. "

"Attractive, easy to set up, and fun to use, whether in the yard, at the beach, or during a power outage. I got one for each of our 3 sons and their families, along with extra wicks and we filled them with liquefied paraffin lamp oil. They were a hit, and I'm glad to have mine on hand. Cleaner, no wax mess, and more light than candles, plus easy to carry around."

"Well I'm experimenting with the hurricane lanterns. I have 1st purchased the Dietz-D lantern and found it kind of cheap, so I wanted to try this brand. These Feuerhand are just really only a little bit better than the cheaper Dietz D lanterns. The wick control knob is easier to turn with the key like knob instead of a small round adjustment rod the Dietz has. Feurehand wick knob was tighter fit and has a higher quality part. Seems as if the Dietz was very loose, too loose for my liking as the quality was lower. My only issue is this lantern is too small. Not enough light. The fuel tank is small and this smaller wick just isn't enough light. Go with a larger lantern!!!! I'm probably not going to stick with the Dietz-D lanterns, too cheaply made. I'm going to try the Champion Galvanized Lanterns (large) and see how that quality is. I would buy another Dietz D lantern again since its good enough and I can almost get 2 lanterns for the price of he Feurhand and Champion Galvanized Lanterns. I'm going to buy a Champion Galvanized Lanterns and give a review on that. Go with a larger lamp! The smaller lamps just are not enough light!"

"These are very nice lanterns. I own three of these and one dietz blizzard. I use these more than the larger dietz. While the quality of the dietz is reasonably good for the cost, these are the best made lanterns hands down. The glass of the globe has a brilliant clarity, the bail handle can stay upright so it's easy to grab and set down. The flame is bright and steady and the finnish on these is excellent. I have them around the yard and on the deck, and for camping and power outages. Guests always ask where I got them from, admiring their beauty. These are much smaller than the Blizzard and throw less light but I feel they are the right compromise between size and light. I expect them to last a long long time."

"This is not a full-sized lantern and is called the "Baby Special" by Feuerhand. It is excellent quality and is worth the money paid."

"I ordered one black and one blue lantern on the 2nd of January 2012, They came March 23rd. Lehman's did a wonderful job of packing these lamps. I expected them to be larger than they are but I can tell they are made with quality in mind. I haven't used them yet but I am sure they will work fine. I hope that Lehman's ordered extra so I don't have to wait like I did for this order, but it was worth the wait. Does anyone know if Feuerhand makes larger lanterns?"

"Excellently made , gives off a fine bright light with paraffin lamp oil for indoors or kerosene for outdoors ( difference in smell ). I would suggest you buy extra wicks because they come with a 1/2 length wick from the factory."

"After an anticipated delay due to back order, I received the lantern. It is what was expected and works great. Already have had a chance to try it out. The quality is above average and the product was packaged very well. I will likely purchase additional lanterns to augment our preparedness supplies. Thank you for carrying these lanterns."

"My red Fuerhand is some serious quality, far exceeding anything else I've handled. My only complaint is it's size. It looks more a decoration than a serious tool for hard use (even though it's capable of being used hard). If they'd make lanterns "Blizzard sized" they'd put Dietz out of business. "

"Originally, I intended to purchase DIETZ lanterns for each of my four grandsons...that is, UNTIL I learned they are Made in CHINA, Not in Germany, as I had thought. I will probably still purchase them but NOT the DIETZ brand. "

"A small lantern, maybe a little bit better made than a Dietz, I have one Dietz that is bigger and the light is nearly equal. The gizmo that holds up the globe is cheaper than the Dietz and lets the globe crash down, a previous reviewer noted this and I agree, light the match BEFORE you lift the globe. Other than that, I think it's a good lantern and so glad to buy something not from China. "

"Received our beautiful Feuerhand in great condition and are looking forward to using it. My husband and I are "lantern novices" and since the lantern was sent without user instructions, we were a bit concerned about safe use, placement, wick and oil replacement, not to mention how to light it and how to blow it out. It would be good if some simple basic instructions were included with the Feuerhand for the lantern challenged users."

"I recently purchased this after getting a Deitz Air Pilot for my brother. The Deitz is a larger lantern, and it costed less than the Feuerhand, but I read reviews that said the Feuerhand is higher quality because it's made in Germany, etc. After being able to compare both lanterns first-hand, I would disagree. The Feuerhand was disappointing for several reasons: (1) The mechanism that lifts up the globe is NOT smooth or easy. (2) The paint which chipped off the top of the wire handle, the globe cage, and the oil reservoir cap, leading me to think this was previously used or a display model. 3) The globe does NOT easily come out of the lantern. The globe cage squeezes it so tightly that I'm afraid it will crack the globe. I want to return this and buy a Dietz instead, but it's not worth it because I will have to pay to ship it back in, and pay a 'restocking' or similar fee. At least I know for next time."

"Some thoughts on this lantern. Good - It is more robust than some other lanterns (globe, metal) - It is actually made somewhere other than the far east (Germany) - Works well, good light. A little brighter than my modern Monarch Bad - The mechanism to hold the globe up while lighting it is terrible. It will hold the globe up for ten or twenty seconds before it gives way and the spring brings it crashing down. Good thing the globe is thick! Hint - Light your match before you raise it, don't take your hand off the lever, than use two hands to lower into place. Indifferent - It is on the smaller side. - Keep in mind if aesthetics are important to you. I have the bright, tinned metal. Which looks good but the top plate changes color and gets dulled shortly after using it. I personally don't mind, just something to note. I don't dislike this lantern (except for the raising mech.) but I probably won't buy another."

"I purchased three of these from another company. While I have really enjoyed them, one of them developed a leak in the bottom of its tank after a couple of years, despite the claim of the tank having a special sealant."
