EUROPEAN-STYLE FERMENTING CROCKS - 10-LITER DESCRIPTION
When the gutter around the rim is filled with water and the heavy lid placed on top, an air-tight seal forms to protect food from air and decay. (The gutter must be occasionally refilled as water evaporates.) These crocks can be kept in a cool place for months, letting the vegetables inside ferment naturally.
  • Designed for making sizable batches of sauerkraut or preserving food for a large family or emergencies.
  • Lead-free, food-safe glaze will not retain foods' flavors and makes cleanup easy
  • Two semicircular weight stones rest on top of food and create pressure needed for proper fermentation
  • Also make excellent containers for kindling, feed, seed, plants or decorations

Note: Weight stones vary in color. Because German-made crocks are handmade, measurements may slightly vary. Also, there are often imperfections in the finish where the lighter tan of the ceramic shows through the dark brown glaze. These imperfections do not affect the performance.

SPECIAL NOTES
* NOTE: An additional $25 shipping surcharge is required.

"After looking all over the web, I decided to get this from Lehman's because of their customer service ratings. I have NEVER cultured ANYthing before in my life, so I bought a few books on the subject and combed many websites and blogs. Once I felt comfortable, I jumped in. After 1 1/2 years and many different recipes, I must say: This is the best crock! Because of the design, it never lets air in and consequently there is no mold or slime. Just delicious veggies. This crock is not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. I have never regretted buying it. After all, why get a cheap one, have mediocre results and then end up buying this one later? It's MUCH cheaper to get the good one and be done with it. IMHO anyway. "

"I think this crock is a good idea, but it does not come with the support necessary for novice users. My first one had several flaws in the glaze, and I got it replaced. The second also has flaws, there have been 2 bad batches so far, and I am still hoping to produce a decent kraut (now on my 3rd attempt). I'm not impressed at this point. With better guidance...? Maybe."
