Pappy's Sassafras Tea
Oct 3, 2018

The woods where I grew up in Alexandria, Virginia we're speckled with sassafras trees in the late 60's / early 70's. I remember taking a pick axe and shovels back in the woods and digging out sassafras roots. The smell was hypnotizingly delicious.
We'd haul the roots home and give them to Mom. She'd boil them, add an overly healthy measure of sugar and turn it all into a couple gallons of sassafras tea. Poured over cracked ice in a tall glass, nothing beat it on a hot summer day.
Pappy's Sassafras Tea concentrate produces the exact same tea -- smells incredible, tastes delicious, takes me back to those boyhood days everytime I make it.

I grew up on sassafras tea love Pappy's it is just as good as digging up roots and brewing it. Get some every time I go home for a visit.

When I was a kid my dad and I would go to the woods and pull up sassafras, take home the roots and steep them for tea. When I was older, we could buy bags of shredded sassafras root, take it home and steep it for tea. When I met my husband, his father used Pappy's Sassafras instant tea. I haven't thought of it or seen it for years. Now I can heat water and put a couple of tablespoons of Sassafras instant tea and get the same great taste with a whole lot less work and much more consistent results.
