Absolutely necessary when preserving peaches I like to sprinkle some on a fresh cut up Apple before I eat it. Makes it juicier and more crisp and prevents browning

I have used this for canning both fruit and mushrooms, which are notorious for turning black during processing. I found it works best to soak the fruit/mushrooms in cold water treated with fruit fresh before canning as well as adding it to the jar before processing. My mushrooms look and taste better than the canned ones at the grocery stores! One issue though, no matter how much fruit fresh you use, if you use any of the non-stainless steel utensils it will darken your fruit/mushrooms.

Used this as directed on freshly cut up fruit and it made the fruit slimy and disgusting. I have already tossed in the trash!
