Dietz Millenium Cooker/Lantern
Jan 31, 2018
I received the Dietz Cooker/Lantern along with along with a Feuerhand oil lantern just before the Christmas holidays to compare the two different brands. The Dietz lantern cooking ring was too big and would not fit into the slots at the top of the lantern. I had to put the Dietz lantern aside during the holidays, and used just the Feuerhand lantern, which I like much better. Today, I just tried to see if I could fit the Dietz lantern cooking ring into the slots--still cannot do it--the ring is definitely too big for the lantern slots. I will need to return the Dietz Cooker/Lantern. I hope to return the Dietz lantern and exchange it for another Feuerhand.

I live in an area of the Pacific Northwest that's prone to wind storms and power outages due to all of our beautiful old growth trees. This wonderful little oil lantern just saw me through the 4th power outage since purchasing it last year. It's been a real blessing and has helped make power outages a little more fun. It does take a full 20-25 minutes for the first pot of water to heat hot enough for coffee, but subsequent pots heat in about 15 minutes once everything is warmed up. I use the hot water with the French Press Coffee On the Go mug also available from Lehman's to make coffee, and I've used the lantern to heat soup, beans, and heat water for ramen and oatmeal. Oh, and it gives off a lot of good light and heat, too! Great little lantern.

For lighting it does the same job as any other lantern of this type. Heating food or water is it's weak point. It will take the chill off things if you leave it long enough, but the distance between the flame and the pot makes it very slow and not efficient.
