This is the only nutcracker that I know of that will crack black walnuts. It does take an effort because the shells are so hard. I cut out a plastic 1/2 gal milk container to fit around the cracking area to keep the nut from exploding like a grenade all over the place.

I have used this cracker since 2005. this year I was given a pail of Texas pecans to crack. I screwed the adjusting screw down to fit the pecans. It worked great. The meat was coming out in 2 pieces and some were whole nuts. The adjustment screw makes it adapt to several kinds of nuts. A great product. Has saved many smashed fingers and thumbs.

I'll add to the many voices--this is a much-needed tool and it works like a charm. I put my hand around the walnut as I crush it to keep the shards from flying everywhere!

This is a very great nutcracker. It is very easy to use. It cracks the toughest walnuts I have with very little pressure. This will save me lots of time cracking. Really love it and would recommend it to anyone. Tried the clothe over it like others suggested and no more flying shells.

This is a very powerful nutcracker and can easily crack black walnuts. It remains a messy job, however, best performed outdoors. I used to use a hammer, which caused widespread spray of shell fragments. With this device, you can lightly cup one hand close to the nut, and contain most of the loose bits. It's also more sanitary than using a hammer on pavement. You get best results if you insert the nut vertically, and stop cracking as soon as you hear the initial crack.

Well made, works great. Makes shelling black walnuts faster and easier. One suggestion I would have and I am going to try it on mine is to add a cloth skirt around the top that would drape down around the nut to prevent the shell fragments from shooting out across the room (probably from too much excitement pressure). Thanks.

I purchased this cracker a few years ago for my father-in-law who lives in the mountains of VA. He mounted it vertically and last year alone processed 6,000 walnuts. This year he has already cracked 7,000 and has a truck load yet to do. Quality and value definitely describe this item and its given him hours of enjoyment. He does a 5-gallon bucket (approx. 300) in 30 minutes. I would certainly recommend this cracker.

The nut cracker works just like its described to work. There was no problem with mounting on a board. I am looking forward to many years of use.

Had this cracker for aprox. 1 month. It's great, however you might as well plan on getting some catch hooks 1/4 x 1-1/4 because you'll be needing them. I've already done 42 pints and more to go. A great device but like anything else maintenance may be required.

I have two Thomas Strain black walnut trees in my yard, one old and one fairly young. The old one has produced beautiful, extra large nuts for years but I have pretty much just thrown them away or let the squirrels in my neighborhood carry them away. That was because they were so hard to crack and there was no place local where I could take them to have them cracked. I noticed the ATOMIC nut cracker I just purchased from you in several of the seed catalogs I've gotten over the years but for whatever reason never bought one. I have a toe-sack full of old black walnuts that I had cleaned down to the nut but never tried to crack. Their shells were old and brittle and, like the literature that comes with the cracker said, they were almost impossible to crack. So, I soaked several of them in water for four days, dumped the water out and poured the nuts into a chicken-wire frame I have to dry. It took me all of 15 minutes to crack those nuts and I couldn't believe the amount of very large, almost intact, nut meats I got out of them. Out of maybe 40 nuts I got probably 2 cups of nut meats. Remember these are Thomas Strain nuts and were advertised as producing the largest black walnuts available at the time I planted them around 30 years ago. If there is any doubt in any of your customers' minds that black walnuts cannot be easily cracked, I can assure you I have put this cracker to the test and it has exceeded by wildest expectations.
