Excerpt from page 133 There is dirt and physical labor associated with some aspects of raising chickens. For the backyard smallholder, the relative unpleasantness is very limited and should not intimidate anyone with an inclination toward keeping fowl. For those who don't already enjoy such tasks as carrying feed and water or shoveling manure, the company of the birds and the eggs and meat they provide will more than outweigh most of what might be the less attractive requirements of chicken husbandry.
