It does the job

I bought my Rapid Washer from Lehman's back in 2007. Where I lived at the time had no DIY laundry facilities, only a communal cleaners of a sort. After having several clothing items damaged or lost, I bought this & a large plastic storage tub. I was able to do my own laundry from then on. In my opinion it works best on heavy clothing items like jeans & sweats. It also works well on t-shirts & socks. I don't recommend it for delicates though. I hand washed all my under clothing. Yes, the handle should be longer. And yes, the handle works itself loose when you're vigorously plunging. My quick fix for that was to drill a small hole through the socket that the handle is installed in, from one side to the other, straight across. Then I installed 2 small stainless steel screws with smooth rounded heads. The screw heads never snagged on any clothing. The Rapid Washer never separated from the handle again. I also took a fine file to the sharp or rough edges & smoothed them out. It only took a few minutes. And yes, the Rapid Washer does rust if you don't make sure that it dries between each use. That's not so hard to do. What you have here is a choice... The Rapid Washer is super heavy duty. If you care for it properly, it will give you many years of service. You'll pass it down to the next generation. You will be replacing the plastic versions every 5-10 years. There's not much difference in the price of the metal one versus the plastic one. If you're not dead-set on having only one item to do your laundry, I recommend that you buy both. Use the plastic one for delicates & light weight items. If you buy both, you'll extend the service life of the plastic one by not using it for heavy items. I still have my Rapid Washer. I haven't used it in years, but it's there if I need it. Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes.
Great washer!

Arrived quickly and in good condition. Works great, you need to really press down hard to secure the handle onto the washer. I noted the complaints about rusting so I have a small fan i place the washer in front of aimed at the centre between and after uses and I don't anticipate having any rusting problems. Lehmans is a great company with great products. And the staff is great too!

only after one use, it began rusting fast and a lot! I just quit using it after a few uses due to the extreme rust problem. I bought the plastic blue one instead. No rust on that.

I just used my new Rapid Laundry Washer for the first time. I washed my clothes in half the time that it took with the Wonder Wash! Now I've got the rest of the day for myself!! I'm gonna love incorporating this into my routine.

Better than a toilet plunger,,,,, but with a little work could be perfect. The ones I used when I was a kid, did not have the solid washer with the single hole off to the side, But instead had a cross-bracket support. This allowed the water and air to move freely through the device. When you push down on this, water should come squirting out the louvres on the top of the cone. Also, the handle should be approximately chin high for real world use without having to bend over all day long. But I think you might discover this on your own if you actually have to really use it all the time.

I love the idea of this immensely, and I love that it isn't made of plastic. However, the handle does not stay attached to the working part. I was able to obtain 1 or 2 plunges before the handle would start to separate from the body of the device. So I would be pumping it into the clothes very carefully trying to keep the handle on with a twisting motion. And the edge had sharp areas that could damage clothing. Even though I was not delighted about using the plastic one, Lehman's did gracefully replace this one for the plastic, and it is fantastic. The plastic one has a handle that is screwed on so doesn't separate, and there are no sharp parts. The plastic one, despite the use of plastic, is so much better constructed and I have had it for a few years now.

I am very pleased with the Rapid Washer. It's a big improvement to clothes washing by hand. Do take the warning to dry it out after each use seriously. This is my second one since after aprox. three years it did rust out. I shake it out thoroughly, then stand it upside down outside in the sun to dry. I'm saving up to buy a Wringer.

Wrote my first review March of 2010. Still washing with the Rapid Washer and have never looked back. Clothes are cleaner, last longer, and I've saved a bundle on electricity, detergent and use NO fabric softner. Secret is wash once, rinse twice! They only dry stiff if you havent rised well enough. In short...I'm one happy Granny. - Have fun!

I originally bought this washer for camping because we always needed something washed while away from home. Lately though I've been helping care for a relative who broke his hip. When his son packed up 2 king sized comforters for me to take with the rest of the laundry I about croaked. But then I just tossed one in the bathtub with a little detergent and it came out cleaner than the one I did stuff in my washer. It wasn't hard work, but my muscles did tell me that they weren't use to it.

I've been doing my laundry by hand, using a toilet plunger, for years. I saw the Rapid Washer on your website and thought I'd try it out. It works very well. Gets clothes cleaner than a washing machine, cheaper than a washing machine, and if you want to push it, quicker than a washing machine. As others have stated, it does rust. Mine is getting very rusty and I wonder what it may do to my clothes. So far there's been no problems. I think a simple galvanizing process (dunking the metal part in molten zinc after it's made) like they do with metal buckets rather than using tin plated steel would greatly improve the product. But it does work very well and is worth the price.

It works wonderfully to wash clothes, but it rusts... BADLY! I dried it off every time I used it, but it didn't matter. It holds water up in the top too, so it's kind of impossible to fully dry it off. It lasted me about a month before it started to rust (I do all of my laundry by hand) and about a year before it ruined a load of clothes with how much rust it had accumulated! I hate having to use plastic because of the effects on the planet, but I think I'm going to buy the plastic one to avoid having to buy a new one over and over... and to avoid ruined clothes!! :( I still would recommend it if not for the rust though... so if you have a way to get it not to rust...

I live in Haiti and must often do laundry by hand. I wouldn't part with my Rapid Washer for anything--it's saved my hands time and again and does a fabulous job! I lent it to a friend recently and now she's buying one, too. The rust is the only setback, but it's not bad--just have to remember to dry it off.

Not only does this do a much better job at washing clothes, but Lehman's are simply the best.It is a pleasure to do business with this company. As far as the washer goes, I won't do laundry any other way.I also have the newer version of this washer that is made of plastic which is also sold here, however, I still prefer this washer even though you should dry this washer out after use to prevent rust.

Before I bought this, I could never get my white lab coats clean enough. For work, they have to be pristine. This blasts the detergent through the coats and gets rid of elbow and pocket stains, even does better on collars than anything else. Much better than the professional laundry service!

Service was unbelievable fast. I was shocked when the package arrived within the week. I washed a few blouses to try it and was surprised at how easy it was. Just a few plunges and the clothes were clean..I agree that there needs to be a better way to secure the handle in place. I will recommend it to everyone.

Very good size for washing clothes. Two cons so far, the handle needs some kind of water tight glue or locking mechanism to keep it from working it's way out, also unfinished edges on the metal plunger part is jagged and extremely sharp! Can snag clothes and skin!

I just received the rapid washer last week and have done 3 loads. I'm quite impressed about this item as my clothes have come out cleaner than the electric washer. I hung one shirt up to dry and I kept looking at it as it seemed a bit brighter than before. No it was not some trick stuff it was cleaner. I have a very large sink so I can do a big load. Its better than the laundromat, I'm never going back to that again! I also want to say Lehman's customer service is wonderful. Its nice not to have to press number 1 or 2 on the phone but to talk to a real person. Very nice.

I absolutely love using this. It makes hand-washing all the laundry so much easier. My only complaint is that it has a little notch in it that keeps snagging all my clothes. I'm sure there's a way to fix that though with something...

Bought duel frontloader HE wash/dryer 16 mos ago. After several repairs, the Salvation Army will pick them up next thursday. I'm back to washing my clothes by hand, using the rapid washer. Cleaner clothes, quicker, less detergent, and my arms are getting skinny! I'm happy, proud and wouldn't be caught without this plunger. Has taken out stains in three/four minutes that have been in my clothes through lots of high efficiency washings. I recommend this item very highly.

I use this in the rinse tub while the wringer washer is finishing the second load of wash. Also just purchased a 7-gallon plastic pail to try out as a mini washer with the rapid washer poked through a hole in the lid. Should be just right for small loads.

Just what I was looking for: moves soapy water through the clothes much more forcefully than handwashing can. I also use it for rinsing. Clothes are cleaner in less time.

I use this to clean horse blankets which are too big and too dirty to put in my washing machine. It gets the soapy water all through the blankets which, when wet, are too heavy to agitate effectively by hand. I also use it to get the worst grime off dirty overalls before I put them in the washing machine. Very useful!

People call me crazy for doing my clothes by hand. But from the first time I tried the rapid washer, I was shocked how much cleaner and less soapy my clothes are. I use half as much soap.
