We've used these bags over & over every year. If you put a stick between the tree and the back of the spout it keeps the bag from banging on the tree.

They worked better than I thought they would. Capacity is far greater than rated! Yes, they can be damaged by wind without any weight in them. Gorilla Duct tape fixes most leaks. I do it as a hobby, and make my own spiles and hangers. No damage by animals. (Sheep pasture) Using again this year.

Never used buckets or hose, so can't comment on them. However, the bags are great. Have had only a small nick in one from the weight of the sap pushing the bag into a sharp corner of bark. Pin prick at best. And the bag was still functional. Very durable, very easy to use. Virtually nothing gets in the bag as a contaminent. You are also about half the price of locally sold, even with shipping. Would rather buy local, but can't afford to!

It would be helpful to know that there are 10 bags per order and the holders have to be ordered separately.

When the bags are less than an eighth full, they can be flipped by wind. You lose whatever you had, and don't collect more until you can right the holder. They are also easily torn by animals. I carry some extra bags with me when I harvest sap to replace damaged ones.

I tried both the sap bags and buckets during Maple Sugaring - I found the sap bags to be reliable and easier to use in our area. I didn't have a single bag fail during the season.

The bags do the job, but they're not very rugged. Even a slight amount of abrasion (e.g., from the bag rubbing against the tree trunk on a windy day) can lead to a pinhole leak.
