A lifetime book

Since John Seymour first published this book in 1976, my wife and I have used it every year as our primary guide to growing and preparing food for our family (and many guests) it has enriched our lives enormously. We have referred to it and used the techniques and methods John writes about, in several different countries around the world, and it has never let us down. This is a great book just to sit and read and dream as well as to use as a hands-on guide to better and healthier living.

A truly wonderful book. Front cover should have haystacks and not round mechanical bales!

Truly my absolute favorite and most useful guidebook I've purchased yet. Easy to understand descriptions and photos, easy to plan projects, and hard to put down. This book honestly changed our life as it was our first purchase toward this lifestyle. The back of the book has a great section for hard to find companies that supply items or knowledge you might need. I bought it about 7 years ago and had to refer to it this year when planting something in our CSA garden. Cannot say enough good.

Really good book that covers a broad range of topics. I also really appreciate how the author explained why he would make certain choices in setting up a homestead. It helps to make you stop and think things through, and begin to understand how a well thought out homestead can be run more efficiently, which saves money and time.

I really like this book. It has much less detail than The Encyclopedia of Country Living but the illustrations are very helpful for someone new to everything in self-sufficiency.
