I don't know what some of you people are talking about saying Feuerhand is so much more expensive than Dietz when the galvanized is cheaper than Dietz! And a better quality. I've got Old Dietz lanterns that are fantastic but China ones are out. I have 7 lanterns with my camp and now chuck wagon and they all work great. I'm going to buy 2 more Feuerhands in a enamel color.
I love these!

Due to the extremely high cost of power in Hawaii, I use two of these nightly. I haven't had any problems at all with these lamps. I liked and used these so much that I bought several to give out as Christmas presents.
It leaked.....it leaked.

I ordered two from Lehman s paying a premium price for a German product. Having cheap ones in the past that leak everywhere. I even paid more over dietz- hoping it would be leak proof so I could actually use it as a leaking lantern is in fact, a bomb. Well. As far as high quality goes- one leaked. One doesn't. So your triple price over wal mart cheap ones gets you that much. So now I'm out 70$ and have one working lantern. Think that's my last purchase from Lehman.
Lehman's says: It is very unusual for a Feuerhand to leak, unless overfilled. We would be happy to send you a replacement lantern. Please reach out to us at 1-800-438-5346 so we can make it right!

I have been using these for two years now, and they have held up very well. I sometimes leave them outside for a week or two, and none have had any issues. These are far better craftsmanship than the Dietz, the fit between the parts is much more precise. I liked them so much, I now have 7.

This is a very good quality Lantern. I am able to trim the wick such that I get a nice wide flame that stays the full width to the top of the flame and very steady so as to not soot the globe and is very bright for such a small Lantern. The fount much larger than is advertised. It has a very solid feel to it.
feuerhand vs dietz
Jan 24, 2018
both the feuerhand and the dietz are very good lanterns, and having bought both ?from Lehman's, I've bought quite a bit of stuff from Lehman's because I've always gotten great service and excellent quality - but I've bought stuff elsewhere and I don't keep track - mox nix - the elevation where I live is 5400 - 5600 ft, I think that matters because here I don't get enough draft for the shorter feuerhands and in fact I've found that the taller dietz lanterns do better than the more compact shorter ones, camping at 7 or 8 thousand feet I just take the largest dietz and no problems, this will sound silly but I think temperature and barometric pressure also make a difference

I have used numerous brands of kerosene lanterns for the last 10 years. By far, the Feuerhand is better than any modern competitor. I use several Dietz and numerous Feurehands used side by side on a regular basis. My Dietz rust and don't have anywhere near the longevity of the Feurehands. The Feuerhands just flat work without fussing and none of them have rusted out. THe only complaint is that the wick roller will sometimes catch the wick if I retract it too far. Not a big deal and only takes about 30 seconds to pull the roller and push the wick beyond its carrier.
Good But Not Great

First, let me say that this is a very nice lantern. It is of good workmanship and functions flawlessly. With that said, I want to say that I am only giving this 3 stars because, for the price, I find Dietz lanterns just as good but for much cheaper. I spent more on this brand because they tout German quality (Dietz are made in China nowadays). Although the quality is very good, it really is no better than any of my Dietz lanterns and they were all much cheaper. Also, as another reviewer pointed out, the "Black Sparkle" color that I got is WAY more glittery than I thought. I thought it would be a gloss black with some silver flecks in it to give it a sheen similar to a black car paint job. Nope. It's full on glitter mixed with the paint. I'm not a fan of it.

I haven't had any problems with leaking. Could be due to over filling. I use this thing daily. I do not like to use my home lights early in the morning or late at night. I enjoy the soft glow this lantern provides. This lantern provides enough light for me to get ready for work, get coffee going in the morning or even checking on things outside before the sunrises or after it sets. It's the perfect size and will be purchasing more.
Feuerhand 276 Lantern
Feb 14, 2017
I have several of these Feuerhand lanterns and have never had a problem with leaking.. You should keep the oil level in the tank slightly below the filler hole and keep the lantern upright when moving it. This will keep the lantern from leaking where the arms attach to the lantern base. I have never had a Feuerhand lantern leak from the base. The quality of these lanterns is unsurpassed compared to what's on the market these days. You will pay more for these lanterns but they are worth it.

Same as previous poster. Leaks on both sides where base meets arm of lantern. Pretty big fire hazard...
Lehman's says: Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We're so sorry to hear this and are investigating this issue. In the meantime, please give us a call at 1-800-438-5346, so we can make it right.
Would be a 5 star rating if it didn't leak in 3 different places

Fire hazard. Leaks at 3 different places. Appears to be of good quality out off the box but I can only fill the tank half full to safety use.
Lehman's says: We're so sorry this happened and are checking into the issue. Please give us a call, so we can make it right: 1-800-438-5346.
Nice little lantern

I purchased both a Feuerhand Baby and a Dietz Comet because I wanted to compare the two and see if the price difference was worth paying more for the Feuerhand. While the weight of the Feuerhand was not substantially more, the paint was better quality. The Comet is a nice camping lantern, or in our case, will be used in the well house if the power goes out to keep the pump from freezing. The Feuerhand is a good looking lantern that will be left out on our bookcase as a rustic decoration until we need it. Worth the money? I think so.
Love this lamp!

I am very happy with this purchase, it was smaller than I expected but that doesn't change how well made, useful and nice it is. I love the light blue color and I am very grateful is was made in Germany, not China like Dietz. I have already been using it for over a year now and love lighting it every time.
Probably not again
Oct 9, 2016
The workmanship was not anything to shout home about and the first burn was not good at all. I tried everything that I knew but I could not get an even burn.

Originally, I intended to purchase DIETZ lanterns for each of my four grandsons...that is, UNTIL I learned they are Made in CHINA, Not in Germany, as I had thought. I will probably still purchase them but NOT the DIETZ brand.

Just got my Feuerhand yesterday in the mail and I cannot believe the quality of the workmanship. For its size it is very durable and does not rattle or show any loose parts. The the handle stays up on its own, as well as the lifting mechanism to allow easy lighting. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quality lantern.
Dec 25, 2013
My red Fuerhand is some serious quality, far exceeding anything else I've handled. My only complaint is it's size. It looks more a decoration than a serious tool for hard use (even though it's capable of being used hard). If they'd make lanterns Blizzard sized they'd put Dietz out of business.

Just got my Feuerhand today, and I am impressed. For it's small size, it is quite heavy, doesn't rattle at all (the handle will even stay up on it's own, and while the lifting mechanism is stiff, mine has not came crashing down yet. The light it puts out is good for the size, but I wouldn't recommend reading with it. I will be buying at least one more of these!

Wonderful lantern. I have several. I thought I would offer some assistance to the reviewer that was complaining because there were no instructions. operating instructions: Fill with kerosene. light with match. to turn off, blow it out. Safety instructions: Don't turn it over or drop it. Don't throw it. Don't place it in a baby's crib. Don't use the fuel to flavor meat. Don't drink the fuel. Don't touch the glass or chimney area as these will become hot. I know this thing is complicated, so if you still have doubts, you'd probably be better off using the light on your cell phone.

It arrived in a box and was well padded. It took several weeks from the time I placed the order online until I got it. I love the lantern, size, light, et cetera. The reason for three rather than 5 stars is I don't like the multi colored speckles it has (more than expected) or the time it took to get it; would have preferred plain black galvanized or just plain galvanized.

Well I'm experimenting with the hurricane lanterns. I have 1st purchased the Dietz-D lantern and found it kind of cheap, so I wanted to try this brand. These Feuerhand are just really only a little bit better than the cheaper Dietz D lanterns. The wick control knob is easier to turn with the key like knob instead of a small round adjustment rod the Dietz has. Feurehand wick knob was tighter fit and has a higher quality part. Seems as if the Dietz was very loose, too loose for my liking as the quality was lower. My only issue is this lantern is too small. Not enough light. The fuel tank is small and this smaller wick just isn't enough light. Go with a larger lantern!!!! I'm probably not going to stick with the Dietz-D lanterns, too cheaply made. I'm going to try the Champion Galvanized Lanterns (large) and see how that quality is. I would buy another Dietz D lantern again since its good enough and I can almost get 2 lanterns for the price of he Feurhand and Champion Galvanized Lanterns. I'm going to buy a Champion Galvanized Lanterns and give a review on that. Go with a larger lamp! The smaller lamps just are not enough light!

Received our beautiful Feuerhand in great condition and are looking forward to using it. My husband and I are lantern novices and since the lantern was sent without user instructions, we were a bit concerned about safe use, placement, wick and oil replacement, not to mention how to light it and how to blow it out. It would be good if some simple basic instructions were included with the Feuerhand for the lantern challenged users.
Aug 31, 2011
I was surprised that it did not come in a box, but it was well wrapped so I guess a box is not essential. However, I did expect an owner's manual or at least an instruction sheet. I have never used one of these! No safety instructions.

Very impressed with this lantern. It is more than just a pretty thing - it was a lifesaver when the power went out. We also use it when we barbecue or go camping. I prefer Feuerhand to Dietz - definitely more durable and made in Germany. Highly recommended.
