Been using the NE Exel composting toilet in my mountain log cabin for around 10 years or so. I installed a fan in the stack "just because I could" but it's really not entirely necessary but does ensure that good evaporation and odor control are always present. The fan runs off a solar panel and battery combination, running 24 hours/day. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this toilet, works like a charm and is only used once or twice a month generally for a couple day each time and two people. Not even challenging it's capacity. I think I've removed dried compost (from the bottom drawer) maybe 3 times in all those years. The only negative is that the compost - for some unknown reason - wants to freeze in the winter when I haven't been up for a few weeks and it's single digits outside (and inside, 'cause I'm off grid). What's a person to do but "do" your business on top of a frozen mass that will thaw with the spring thaw. It's a great toilet and a bargain price considering the competition. Basic, simple, effective.

We have a seasonal camp in Northeastern Pa where a conventional septic would be very costly. Purchased an Excel NE five years ago and it has performed better than one could imagine.

Bought this toilet for a very small island camp in Quebec with no electricity and no chance of water or septic service. Over the last ten years it has worked as advertised and has been worth every penny. Guests comment on the lack of odor and convenience. We have had no trouble at all with it.
