'Twas The Night Before Christmas...In Our Store

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that Lehman’s goodies would soon be there. The customers were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of butter churns, danced in their heads. My family was ready to send out their presents And had just settled down to a dinner of pheasant. winterstoreback When in the village of Kidron there arose such a clatter We sprang from the store to see what was the matter Away to the square we flew like a flash And ran around the buggies to avoid any crash store-at-christmas-2The moon on the brest of the new fallen snow Gave the lustre of midday to the objects below. When what to our wondering eyes should appear, But a truck full of presents, and each gift so dear. santa-jay-in-tree And a little old driver, so lively and glad I knew in a moment it must be Jay Lehman, my dad The gifts were all piled in the bed of the truck And he whistled and shouted and described them by name. For homesteaders and homeschoolers For the camper and farmer For gardeners and pet lovers For children and grandparents Searching for a simpler life One with less stress and less strife The presents were sure to delight Each person on Christmas night store-at-christmas-3Jay Lehman was ready to make the world rightjay-198x300 He was wearing blue jeans That were worn at the knees His eyes how they twinkled – his hair so shiny His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow The base of a pen, he held in his hand He crossed off his list, from sea unto land store-at-christmas-5He looked so happy, a right jolly elf And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself He spoke not a word, but when straight to his work.
