Beverage

Some switchel recipes hearken back to American Colonial days. This version is still enjoyed by the Amish during busy times on the farm, such as haying or threshing. It’s an excellent refreshing drink to carry out to the field on a hot day. Can also be served hot in the winter.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups fresh water
  • 1 cup raw honey (see below)
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar (can use raw, organic or regular)
  • 1/2 cup blackstrap molasses
  • 1/2 tsp . ground ginger

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, heat all ingredients, stirring until the honey and molasses have dissolved. Cool and serve.
