We purchased the 5 qt churn in '04 & have been using it several times a year for butter making demos. You have to soak it overnight/ several hrs minimum to swell the staves. As the years have passed we have also sealed the bottom with bees wax. When cleaning with warm water the beeswax is lost , so it will need to be reapplied. Over 1000 children have joyfully pounded this well loved churn. As we research its replacement I am happy to see it still available.

Lovely decorative piece I received for my 50th birthday but disappointing that I could not really make butter in it!
