I believe this is a Merkur 15C. I bought a Merkur 15C elsewhere, and it is exactly the same as this one, right down to the Merkur markings on its handle. This razor is renown for its beginner-friendliness, but I have not used any other and cannot comment on that. For me, I've been absolutely brutal with myself. I've used the very barest minimum, right down to experimenting with dry-shaving with this. It's possible, but not recommended. I've been using simple bar soap as lather, and this shaver does well. Getting a good shave is very closely tied to the blade itself, and the Merkur blade also sold by Lehman's is very highly recommended. It's a spectacular beginner blade and these two products go well together. So yes, it turns out I bought a spare.. the first one shows no signs of wearing out. It's metal, so .. it's basically an heirloom item. I guess I have another just in case I lose the first.

Since my earlier comment on 12/23/2011 I'm *still* using this! It shows no signs of wearing out. This has outlasted every other thing I've had in my bathroom.

Feeling concerned about the amount of plastic I use I purchased this razor about 4 years ago. I am still using it. My husband and I SHARE it so this little guy doesn't just shave faces but also legs and underarms with a good cleaning between uses. It cuts easier than a standard disposable razor so you have to be careful and there are some women I know who would not be satisfied with the closeness of this shave but it's good enough for a greenie like me. My only complain is with the blade replacements, they coast an arm and a leg and come in a plastic case. I hate to say it but it is a much better and greener deal to buy the replacements from Amazon. Please forgive me.

This is my first safety razor fit and finish was vary good. Love the result. If you are tired of disposable razor's give it a try you won't be disappointed, only wish you sold other brands of blades.

My first time using a safety razor and I like how shaves. My only gripe is the handle is too small. would like to see a beefier handle available. other than that, I like it. :D

I replaced my plastic safety razor with cartridges with this model. It's very luxurious to use and will save me money in the long run. I'm very happy with it.

Very well priced razor and works exceptionaly well. I have tried for 10+ years to use traditional cartridge razors, most recently Mach 3, and they destroy my face. This is a great starter razor that is easy to use, a good price, safe, well built, etc. If you have sensitive skin or get razor burn, definately get this and some shaving soap. Look up how to use on youtube for additional help.

I bought this razor as my first safety razor, and I am more than pleased with the result. It has a nice weight to it, and the short handle helps as a reminder to not push too hard and let the natural weight guide the razor. I have been using it with the Merkur blades and have been getting a very close shave with much less razor burn than my old disposable razors. Highly recommended.

After years of using expensive razors, I couldn't be happier with this razor. I'm happy that Lehman's carries them as well as the quality Merkur blades. My razor is amazing in the quality and fit and finish. The head keeps a mirror finish and is machined perfectly. I've been using this razor daily for over a year now and it looks as good as the day I took it out of the box. I couldn't be happier. Keep stocking these great items, Lehmans!

This is a good first safety razor (Merkur brand). I purchased this for my husband and his 2 major complaints are: 1. Due to the waffled edge, the razor doesn't shave very close. In order to get a fairly close shave, he has to do about 3 passes. He's used my fathers old Gillette and LOVED that one. 2. The chrome started to pit almost immediately. I know the razor is *only* $34 bucks, but I expected something a little better than pitting after 2 weeks worth of use. So, basically, if you want to try it out and are afraid that you might injure yourself with a straight blade (or other safety razors), give this one a try. If you really like it, you will probably start searching out another razor of better quality and/or can shave closer. If your fairly confident that you already want a safety razor, go hit the old antique stores and look razors there.

Fantastic razor that has lasted me years now. Excellent construction, reminds me of a finely-crafted dart. ;)

OK, I have shaved for 30 years with disposable razors. Never felt like I ever had a close shave. I ordered this awhile ago. Pretty simple yet very well made razor. I gave it a shot. All I can say is WOW! Using no pressure I got the closest shave of my life. Slapped a little Bay Rum on my face afterwards and I felt great. Dang, I wasted 30 years of my life on them plastic razors. I actually enjoy my morning shaves now... Lots of blades available out there to choose from. I'm now buying blades in packs of 100 for about $8.00. Cannot beat that with disposables. I'm a happy boy...

This is a Merkur standard razor (33C I believe). It's short handle helps to ensure you use the proper zero pressure technique. It is high quality and is highly recommended on several forums. Try various types of blades if the standard Merkur blades don't work for you.

I bought this as a gift for my husband. I would have bought the gift pack but he didn't like the razor in it. After using it, he likes the weight and balance but suggests a longer handle. He said it was very easy to install and change the blade. He is glad you sell the replacement blades.

I bought this for my boyfriend and he loves it. He says it gives him a better shave than any other razer he's used and the blades last much longer - saving lots of money!

Nice weight, longer handle would be better. Otherwise working well. Happy to be decreasing the landfill with all those plastic throw aways razors.
