I bought 2 of these shades for my genie III wall lamps and find that they shield the light so much that, even with the wick turned up, it serves nothing more than a dim night light. You could read while sitting under the light, but that's a strain at best.

Every Aladdin lamp needs a shade! I have several glass shades, which I like a little better, but I tried this one because it is far less expensive, it needs no tripod or ring because it's supported on the chimney, it won't shatter, and because I've never tried one of the parchment shades. I like it. You can adjust its height by bending the thin tabs that rest on the chimney, so if it is to sit higher on a shelf, you might want the shade to sit lower on the lamp, or if the lamp is sitting lower on an end table you might want the shade to sit higher on the lamp. Easy. I had thought it would be more translucent than it is, and there is some texture in the color that doesn't show up in the photo. Still and all it is well worth having, especially if the choice is between having this shade or none at all. Again, I like it. I'm sitting here admiring it late on a cool summer night with the windows open. It helped turn my 40 dollar second-hand store Aladdin clear Lincoln Drape shelf lamp into a real gem that makes a pleasant, very useful light.

I highly recommend this shade for the Aladdin lamp. The lamp burns bright. This shade helps save the eyes from the glare.
