Pumped water out of underground fuel tank
Apr 23, 2017
This pump worked great to get the water out of the bottom of our 2000 gallon underground fuel tank. The tank had 8 inches of fuel and water in it. We attached the pump to a 1 1/4 inch 10 ft PVC pipe just as you would to put it in a well. Then pumped the water into a 5 gallon plastic gas can using a funnel with one high side (transmission funnel according to my husband). We were thrilled with how well it worked. We only had 15 gallons of water in our tank. If you have a lot more you will probably want something else to pump into. The first 2 cans of plain water we dumped on the gravel driveway. The last will go to the toxic waste place at the dump. We had tried a hand pump from Tractor Supply which did nothing. Since this pump is not designed to pump fuel oil, I put it in a sink of Dawn and water and pumped it clean. The water came into the tank because the inlet pipe was loose. We just had to screw that back down. We had expected to need to solder it but thankfully not.

We had problems with these pumps and while the pump was not great the service from these people was over the top ...they returned our money and we were not required to send the pumps back. 10 Stars for service

The first one I ordered was damaged. I called Lehman's and their customer service is second to none. I didn't have to return the damaged one and they sent me a new one without question. Excellent service and product! Thank You!

Had bought these previously so ordered 5 new ones to replace. The new ones we got were garbage. The side broke out of 2 of 5. The tops will not stay on any of them. Pretty disappointed in the product.

I drove a well in my pasture and installed one of these pumps over 4 years ago. It has been used almost daily to keep our horses and cows in water and to keep us in water during power outages. I've had to replace the check leather about every 2 years, but that's a 3 minute job. I did drill a 1/16 hole in the check leather to keep from freezing in winter and this pump has pumped water even in -40 temps! The only downside is that it does take a lot of pumping to fill 2-110 gallon troughs.

These are a very durable pump at a decent price. They have their weak points in their design, but overall are great. The best feature is the main parts that will wear out are replaceable through Lehman's. We have six at our pumpkin patch that are heavily abused by kids at a water pumpkin race, but all and all they hold up decently considered the extreme amount of use they get. For us, leathers last about 1 year and it seems like we are constantly tightening a part, but with 6 getting used 6 hours a day at times we can't complain. Minus the leathers, these should last for years with any home use.

I am ordering a 2nd one of these great cistern pumps. The 1st one got smashed by a falling tree in the past winter storms. The pump was easy to set up (my neighbor did it for me). It works great, easy and fast. I did have to hand prime it each time we used it by pouring a cup or two of water in it to get it pumping - this was not a problem at all. The pump looks great in our front yard - we built a little stone foundation around it for decorative value.

good price, low quality casting, non precision bore, cheap (thin) leather seals. Not the quality you may expect from Lehmans - but will work.

I installed this pump on a hand driven, 25 foot well in my pasture. It has worked daily for the past 3 years. The only modification I made was to drill a small 1/16 hole in the lower leather to help it drain back in freezing weather. Before that it would freeze before it would drain in below zero temps. Just ordered another for the barn.

Bought this pump as a decorative addition to a wooden rain barrel, but it works so well that I use it every day to water potted plants around the yard. Very good value pump, but I wouldn't want to count on this as my only source of water.

Easy to prime that a child could operate. Best out there for the money. Highly recommend.

I purchased this pump for our weekend place (no electricity, no running water). It was relatively easy to install. The pump was hard to operate at first, but after 2 small pitchers of water to prime it and after water flowed beautifully, the pump became easy to operate. Holds the prime for hours. I'm very satisfied with the product.

This pump is great; it's pumping water up from 30ft! It is great quality, especially for the awesome price. I highly recommend it.
