AUTHENTIC SHOOFLY PIE DESCRIPTION
Ingredients: Light table syrup, brown sugar, water, eggs, baking powder, baking soda, pastry flour, cinnamon, salt, and shortening

Did you know?
No one is sure where the name "shoofly" comes from. The popular explanation is that since the pie is so sweet it attracted flies as it cooled on the windowsill. The cook would shoo the flies away, thus "shoofly" pies.

"The shoe fly pie tastes just like the shoe fly pies my Grandma and Mom used to make. It is very sweet, we serve it with vanilla ice cream and coffee or hot tea."
